Returning used walking aids
No longer need it? Return it!
Using a refurbished walking aid is on average 98% lower in carbon emissions than using a new one and as part of our sustainability efforts, we’re encouraging former patients to return theirs if they are no longer being used.
Items that can be returned are:
- Crutches
- Walking sticks
You can return them to our emergency department at the Northumbria Hospital and we will make sure they’re in a good enough condition to be used by another patient.
By returning your no-longer used walking aids, you will be helping to support the trust’s Northumbria Net Zero action plan.
You can return crutches and walking sticks to our drop off point.
If you have other walking aids or equipment that you no longer use, you can contact the Joint Equipment Loan Service from Northumberland County Council by calling 01670 730595 or visiting their wharehouse:
JELS Warehouse
43 Colbourne Crescent
Cramlington
NE23 1WB
The drop off point for returning your walking aids is the main recpetion at the Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington.
If this is too far for you to travel, you can contact the Joint Equipment Loan Service from Northumberland County Council to arrange a collection by calling 01670 730595
We will only accept walking aids if their repairs are minor. We won't accept anything that is snapped or has a lot of damage.
