What patients may need to know about the daily routine on the ward The nurse-led unit is staffed by highly experienced emergency nurse paractitioners.
Are children welcome? Yes, but the unit is unable to see those under 1.
What conditions does the unit treat?

The unit treats conditions such as:

  • Emergency contraception.
  • Sprains and strains.
  • Suspected broken bones although would be sent elsewhere for xray.
  • Cuts, grazes or suspected wound infections.
  • Minor burns and scalds.
  • Minor head injuries where there has been no loss of consciousness or  vomiting, if you are not taking any blood thinning medications and there are no residual symptoms i.e. headache, nausea, visual disturbance, dizziness or any other symptoms of concussion.
  • Minor eye problems.
  • Ear and throat infections.
  • Insect and animal bites.
  • Nose injuries.
  • Removal of rings, earrings and studs.
  • Removal of foreign bodies from skin, eyes, nose or ears.
