Refurbished community hospital ward to reopen
The refurbished in-patient ward at a Northumberland community hospital has reopened this week.
Blyth Community Hospital, which is part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, delivers care for the elderly, outpatient clinics, radiology services and physiotherapy services.
Work to improve the environment of the 26-bed inpatient ward, which mainly provides care for the elderly and rehabilitation, began in March this year. It will once again provide care for inpatients from today - Thursday August 8, 2024.
Work carried out, which has modernised the ward and made it a much more pleasant environment for both patients and staff, included painting the walls, fitting new doors, flooring, ceiling and lighting, and updating furniture.
Birju Bartoli, chief executive officer at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the patients that have had to travel a bit further for their inpatient care while we have done this work. We appreciate their patience and understanding.
“We are very pleased with the results of the work as we appreciate the importance of making the environments that we care for our patients in as pleasant as possible. An average of 490 patients were admitted to this ward per year, over the last two years.
“We know that being in hospital can be a worrying and unsettling time for both patients and their loved ones. This work demonstrates our on-going commitment to continuously improving both patient and staff experience.”
Patients, who have required overnight hospital care and would normally be admitted to Blyth Community Hospital, have been cared for at Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington.
All other services provided from Blyth Community Hospital have been provided as normal.
