PEG grab bags are now available to patients at all Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust hospitals.

Who is a PEG bag for?

The PEG bags are for patients with an enteral feeding tube. It will help to keep track of their essential PEG supplies and ensure they are accessible at all times.

What is a PEG bag?

PEG bags are bright, easily identifiable grab bags designed for patients to store their gastrostomy supplies in (spare tube, an extension and their PEG passport).

Where are PEG bags used?

We aim to distribute PEG bags to all our patients in the community. It should become standard practice for any patient with a new PEG fitted to be provided with a bag alongside their PEG passport.

These patients can then keep their bag in a safe and easily accessible location at home and bring them to any appointments, as well as routine emergency admissions.

Why are PEG bags being used?

The aim of the PEG bag is to improve patient care, by ensuring there is always a spare PEG tube and (where necessary) extension set available. This also ensures patients have access to vital nutrition and hydration when admitted to hospital.

If you have a feeding tube and haven't yet received one of our new PEG grab bags, please contact us on 0191 293 2504 and we can get one sent out to you.
