Northumbria invests in software business

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce that it has today acquired the business of Health Call Solutions Limited.

Health Call was founded in 2016 in order to share digital health expertise and resources, improve outcomes in the NHS and lower the costs of health services.

Initially started by way of a collaboration of the NHS Foundation Trusts in the North East of England, Health Call now provides patients with access to digital technology, giving them access to innovative solutions to support their care and provides staff in the NHS with digital tools to support the care and outcomes for their patients.

Northumbria believes these services are important to the future of the NHS and it is excited to be able to support Health Call to develop its reach across the NHS.

A spokesperson for the trust said: "We would like to thank our colleagues and partners who have all made this transaction possible including the other Foundation Trusts in the North East.

"We would also like to acknowledge the support given by Health Innovation North East and Cumbria and also Ammar Mirza, CBE who, for the last 7 months, has been supporting the development of the services of Health Call and has played an important role in making this deal possible."

The deal will see the trust acquire a number of software products to better manage healthcare data, enable NHS patients to manage appointments more easily and deliver care remotely into homes and communities.

The move continues the recent digital strategy of the trust to develop and deliver services that support both the clinical staff and the public in accessing our care. This has included the digitisation of millions of health records and the creation of a number of new systems that help medical teams work more effectively.

It is hoped that by acquiring this business the trust will be able to improve digital services even further, but also take an active role regionally and nationally in offering a Patient Engagement Platform that enables people to manage their medical appointments and clinical letters online.

Digital innovation and making the best use of technology has been identified as vital for the future of the health service and moving from 'analogue to digital' is one of the key shifts set out in Lord Darzi's independent investigation of the NHS.
