SAS Week 2024 - Dr Rizwan Nayeem
My name is Rizwan, I’m a specialty doctor in general surgery. I joined the trust in February 2024, and this is my first job in the NHS.
I studied medicine in Bangladesh and completed my Fellowship (FCPS) in Surgery under the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons before completing my MRCS under the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In my previous position in Bangladesh, I was a teaching registrar at a medical college where I taught 3rd, 4th and 5th year medical students along with taking part in the regular functions of a busy surgical unit.
I have a special interest in minimal access surgery, especially Upper GI, and joining Northumbria has given me an opportunity to develop myself in these areas. Coming into the NHS as a specialty doctor had its own set of challenges that I am working to overcome, but it has been an immensely rewarding journey so far.
I am grateful to the SAS community for taking me in and providing a platform for getting our opinions heard.
