International Nurses Day - In conversation with Andrea Worsdale
I started my career in Northumbria Healthcare Trust in 2000 as a Healthcare Assistant on a Stroke ward, here I was successful to be supported by the trust to complete my Nursing studies to become qualified. My first post was in Critical Care where I developed my skills over 12 years and was promoted to a Junior sister role.
The opportunity became available to venture into a specialist role and I was successful to become a Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse. This role was both very challenging and rewarding, developing skills to work as an autonomous practitioner at times and also closely with other clinicians from other trust to provide care for cancer patients. I was able to progress to the Lead Lung Cancer Nurse Role, developing the service we provide and also the cancer specialist nurse role, this has opened opportunities for me develop further into my current role as Respiratory Clinical Nurse Manager where I am continuing to learn grow.
