Celebrating our AHP workfoce - Robert shares his story

I studied physiotherapy at Kings College London at age 18 straight out of college. I then completed my junior rotations at University Hospital London where I gained a varied experience in Ortho, Respiratory, MSK, stroke rehab and COTE. Man standing beside Olympic swimming pool at the London 2012 olympics

Following this I mixed work with travel with 12 months MSK contract in Australia and 6 months in New Zealand. These were fantastic opportunities to experience a different lifestyle and explore the world while gaining further experience in MSK physiotherapy. On return to the UK, I then continued my MSK career working for a private musculoskeletal company, whilst also gaining experience in sports physiotherapy, in various sports such as Rugby Union, Lacrosse and Rugby League.

My sports physiotherapy career peaked when I worked at the London 2012 Olympics. This was an amazing experience to see London at its best hosting the biggest sporting event in the world!

A career in physiotherapy has enabled me to combine my passions of sport and travel alongside my working role. Following on from my private sector work I enjoyed several years as a locum working across a wide variety of clinical areas, prior to deciding to return to MSK within the Staff physiotherapy service at Northumbria.

Being part of the staff physiotherapy service is very rewarding. I really enjoy the daily interaction with the various staff groups and take joy in helping people to better manage their musculoskeletal health, to not only function in their role but to enjoy their hobbies and activities outside of work.
